In California, rain is a natural disaster
Drizzles are blizzards, gusts tornadoes,
Do you remember? The house was caving in
The roof collapsing-Anna and Erin crying-the power went out-china destroyed
Escaped to the attic, we ate cookies and tuna by flashlight
touched hands for the first time since I left last June
And don’t come back! you screamed that day,
Now I’m fixing the power, sandwiches for the little ones, telling you
It’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay,
my fingers caressing the bottom of your neck
knowing this is only temporary
but for tonight-
